EXITING PLATOS CAVE 

In Plato's Republic, Socrates describes prisoners who have been chained inside a cave their entire lives, facing a blank wall. Behind them burns a fire, and between the fire and the prisoners runs a walkway where people pass carrying objects — puppets, figures of animals, tools — whose shadows are cast on the wall. Having never seen anything else, the prisoners take the shadows to be reality itself, even giving names to them and praising whoever predicts their movements best. Then one prisoner is freed. He turns toward the fire, painful as the light is, and is dragged up out of the cave into the sun — blinded at first, until his eyes slowly adjust and he comes to see the actual world, and finally the sun itself, the source of everything he once mistook for real. But when he returns to the cave to free the others, he stumbles in the darkness his eyes no longer know, and the prisoners take his clumsiness as proof that the journey ruined him. They refuse to leave — and Plato has Socrates suggest they'd kill anyone who tried to drag them out. The allegory is about the difficult, sometimes dangerous work of moving from illusion to knowledge: the ascent is painful, the return is thankless, and yet the one who has seen the sun is obligated to go back down.

Exiting Plato's Cave is a podcast about learning the right questions underneath everyday life — consciousness, the UAP phenomenon, cymatics, parapsychology, quantum physics,ancient humanity's forgotten past to name a few and the human problems we could actually solve if we looked at them honestly. Hosted by musician/producer Dustin Edward Howard, the show approaches big ideas hoping to communicate with others and grow in learning and exploring the reality, of reality.

• Professor of biological anthropology at Montana Technological University — Ph.D. from Ohio State, specializing in hominin evolutionary anatomy. Before he ever touched the UFO subject, his day job was the science of how human skulls evolve. 

• Fresh off The Joe Rogan Experience (#2428, December 2025) — a nearly three-hour conversation on the biggest podcast in the world.

• Author of three books — Identified Flying Objects (2019), The Extratempestrial Model (2022), and Revelation: The Future Human Past — built around one of the most original hypotheses in the entire UAP conversation: that "aliens" may not be visitors from another planet, but our own distant descendants, using time travel the way anthropologists use fieldwork — coming back to study their evolutionary past. • His outlook/argument starts in his own specialty: the classic "grey" is a bipedal primate — big cranium, small face, five digits, forward-facing eyes. Project the actual trends of human evolution far enough forward and you get something eerily familiar. His question: why would a being from another world look like a projection of our fossil record?

• He's also co-author of a peer-reviewed 2024 paper with two Harvard researchers arguing that science should stay open to Earth-based explanations for UAP — the paper that made international headlines. Agree or disagree, this is a credentialed scientist willing to ask questions most academics won't touch.

• That's exactly what this show is for. We'll dig into the theory, the physics, the pushback — and the parts of the phenomenon nobody asks a skull scientist about. Masters is intelligent, laid back and doesnt take himself too seriosuly, even if he is absoluelty serious. So in my first episode, i figured Id just start right out of the gate with TIME TRAVEL and UFOs/"Aliens." You'll have to tune in to chime in on the converstion.
